MEETING 2B (REFLECTION) July 17, 2014

June 17, 2014 was our second meeting in Technopreneurship. It was a horrible day for me because I didn’t finish all the innovations that we needed to pass. As usual every time there are late in the class there’s always a talent portion which we really enjoyed the most. And unfortunately I’m one of them who showcase their talents. Then, I have no choice but to sing. I didn’t mean to come late and I think a few minutes are not a big deal for me. After showcasing our talents, it’s time for us to start right away our discussions because we are running out of time. So then, Sir rsg posted a 9dots which is our first activity.

“9dots”?? This was the first question that appeared in my mind. Here, another question “What’s the connection of featuring it in our Techno subject?” This are just questions that matters me anyway. But the answers of this question reveals after the activity. Before that sir rsg instruct us to prepare 1 whole sheet of yellow paper to answer this 9 dots activity.

At first I knew already that it is a mind game. Mind game – for me it is a game that composes logic, analysis, and comprehension. In my whole life this what they called “9 dots” is one of the mind game that I heard before. Yes, you read it right that I heard it before but never been tested to answer. So on that day when it was introduces to us to answered I was really surprised because it seems very familiar to me. And I remembered when I was in my childhood days I was tested to answer this kind of mind game but then, I still cannot remembered that I knew the answer.

Back to the situation when sir rsg introduces it to us and at the same time he also gave instructions about the rules of the game. He said that; answer this 9dots mind game in your whole sheet of yellow paper. Connect the 9 dots using only four strokes without lifting your hand in the paper. So then I said to myself that I think I will never find any answers for this, because I knew that mind games which composes logic, analysis and comprehensions are my weakness and I really hate to answer this kind of games. That’s why maybe I’m not good in every logical, analytical and comprehension aspect of thinking how this things gonna work or can be answered correctly. Then he followed to say that we can write an answer in our papers as long as we want, even if it’s going to be a scratch as long as we tried our best to find the answers on connecting the dots using only four strokes without lifting our hand in the paper. So from that moment I started thinking that I was in this place before on answering this mind game again without lifting hands. And until that moment I don’t know what the answer is. Then sir rsg said that its time for us to answer this 9 dots thingy mind game.

In my seat I was so empty because I don’t really know how to connect the 9 dots with just four strokes. The time came that I started to sketch the first one, what I did was connecting the first dot to the second and third to formed a horizontal line, next I connected the third to the sixth and ninth dots to formed a vertical line in the right side , then from ninth I connected it to the eight and seventh dots to formed a horizontal line in the bottom of the figure, then lastly in my thinking since I already draw a three strokes there is only one left so then from the seventh dot I connected it to the fourth and back to the first dot. By then I realized that yeah right I’ve done four strokes and it shaped a square, which is not the correct answer for the fifth dot wasn’t connected to others so it’s obviously wrong.

Here I started again the a second turn and what I did was connecting again the first dot to the second and third to formed a horizontal line, next I connected the third to the sixth and ninth dots to formed a vertical line in the right side, then from ninth I connected it to the eight and seventh dots to formed a horizontal line in the bottom, then from the seventh dot I connected it to the fourth and back to the first dot and without knowing, since its dealing with without lifting hand rules I didn’t notice that I already sketch 5 strokes which from the first dot to the fifth dot in the center  and to the ninth dot. So it formed again a squared with a slope that intersects inside.

I tried not only twice but more, because I was trying to solved it really hard. Some of the sketch is not in a good formed. I think it squeezes our brain in just an hour because some of us don’t know how to solve it too and I knew it already. Then when the time is up, sir rsg begin to talk on who will be the one to solved it with just four strokes and without lifting a hands on it. Then, suddenly one of my classmates participated in front to show her answer and she come up with a letter R formed in the 9 dots which is not correct because it has more than four strokes. So at that time I didn’t think for it coz I know no one could answer it except sir rsg, but I was wrong there is one of my classmates that already experienced it to sir rsg’s class before, so he shows us the right answers on connecting the 9 dots with just a four strokes and never lifted his hand. Then after he draw the right answer he explained that why he come up this figure because it is the right thing to do that we should think outside the box and we should look beyond that.

That’s only my reflection about the first 9 dot activity on july 17, 2014.
