MINOR FIELDTRIP

FTS (Field Trip and Seminars) subject composes the Major and Minor events. Which in the Major Fieldtrip it was done from 7^th to 11^th day of September, 2015 and was held in Luzon particularly in Manila.  Events were successfully happened at that time and probably majority of us learned a lot from the experienced. After the major events it was said that Minor fieldtrip must follow and on the 23th day of January it was done and held at the School Social Hall.

As early as 8:00 am – 9:00 am it was Saturday then, students wrote their names on the attendance paper for the program preparation.  During the registration many of us prepared themselves for the program because they all have their activities afterwards. Here are the flow events of the Minor Fieldtrip Program:

On the Part 1 of the program, Mr. Ralph Gideon is the first speaker and he gave us knowledge about Graphic tools: Fundamentals of Design. Base on his presentation he gave emphasis of what does design really means and how we are or we should apply it on a certain scenario on our websites or other stuff.  During his presentation he said “Designing is equals to Problem solving” which means when we apply to design something it made the thing so important and usable by the user because it will became more inviting or attractive to use. And he also gave us the difference between artist and designers. He also let us to answer his question on “thus artist and designers are the same?” then, some of the students said Yes and least said No, but the truth was according to his research “artist! =designers” or “artist is not equal to designers” because Artist think outside the box about the art that they are going to do , while Designers thinks any possible designs that they think need to apply. The bottom-line of his presentation was Designer is really important to a certain company who’s product or services are to design a website or any related design items. He also tackled about the 7 elements of Foundation of a Design.

And below are the important content of a design:
1. Balance – has 2 types; Symmetrical Formal Balance and Asymmetrical informal balance.

2. Rhythm

3. Emphasis

4. Unity (Harmoney or Uniformity)

5. Variety

6. Proportion

The first speaker also gave the student the qualifications of being a good Designer. First, good designers read or brows books, pdf, tutorials, and etc. Second, you must know the basic. Third, you must know your limit. Fourth, do some experiment. Fifth, ask a lot and accept criticisms from others. And lastly, learn to communicate. These are just steps that the speakers wanted the students to learn about designing.

The second speaker was Ms. Shannen Yu Spar she’s a UI/UX Designer at Ingenuity Company. She talks about the Front end Web Development. She talks more on what are the difference between the front –end developer and the back –end developer. On her presentation she perfectly clear that front end is also referred to as the client side and sometimes considered “web design”. The back end of the web industry is often called the server –side.

Her emphasis what she usually doing as a UI/UX designer is that user interface (UI) Designer is basically a visual designer and generally focused on design. That they’re not usually involved in the implementation of design, but they might know light HTML and CSS so they can communicate their ideas more effectively to the developers. And while a UX (User Experience) designers work in the front end and study and research how people use the sites and make changes through a lot of testing. A front end developer may be required to have a gasp on testing, as well as be well versed in HTML , CSS, and JavaScript. Then what she said about Back –end or the “server side” was, it basically how the site works, updates and changes. This refers to everything the user can’t see in the browser, like databases and servers.

Usually people who work on the back end are called programmers or developers. She made to clear that back end developers are mostly worried about things like security, structure and content management. They also the one who is required to create dynamic site which, dynamic site like Blogs , Facebook , and others is a site that constantly changing and updated in real-time.  Ms. Spar also recommends Boilerplates for bootstrap and html, Sass or {Less} compilers for CSS. 

A good front – end developer would also have to work in collaborating, interpreting, compiling, testing, optimizing, and researching for their websites to be more functional to the user. After she delivered her topics question and answer was followed and a lot of the students gave her questions that must be answered by her according to her experienced and knowledge. One of the students question was “what makes a person a good developer? ” then she answered that ,“ A good Developers must have a clean program flow so that if someone or anyone else will follow his works he will understand well the program and dynamically do the progress, and that’s what makes a person as a Good developer ”.

So much for the second speaker, the third speaker was Mr. Nikko Comidoy who is a former student of the University. He is a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student. Then according to him, he just wanted to share what he experienced about the competition that they won in their previous college life. He exclaimed that those competitions really gave them inspiration to make difference and achieved their goals after graduated. He said the events gave him a big impact on dealing his fair to pitch his idea and fight for his confidence to put in a higher level. Somehow he said that Mr. Randy Gamboa is a big part of his journey of what he is right now because of the confidence he built during those events.

After the 3^rd speaker we had our lunch that we enjoyed the most. Then, the Part 2 of the program immediately started in which the Hackathon and Pitching for Startup Competition was held. I saw everyone seriously preparing themselves about the competition because there are prizes to be given to those who are going to win. Many of us also have a cool feeling of having no competition to join because we are done already the pitching during our previous subjects. As what I have observed a lot of the student was very nervous about the Pitching Competition because they were chosen to have a group in different clusters. There were 4 clusters made, which the 1^st cluster was placed at the right side of the hall, and then the 2^nd cluster was in the center bottom of the hall, then the 3^rd was placed in the left side, and the 4^th cluster was at the center stage. Time past by some students was relieve because they have done there pitch within just a minute or less than by that. Afterwards, when everyone was done we waited for the announcement of who are those people chosen their ideas as top that are going to pitch at the stage. The competition is quite so enjoyable because everyone feels like their ideas were chosen and when the announcement declares those top ideas they keep on laughing for knowing that they didn’t expect it to be chosen.

What I learned?

I learned that all the speakers are very passionate of the skills and jobs that they have now. They all have the knowledge about the fields that they studied. During the seminar I learned that Front- End is everything that involved with what the user sees, including the design and some languages like HTML and CSS. A common front end job title is “Web designer” who designs websites.

What I liked?

I liked the moment that mostly of us participated in the event especially in the question and answer portion. I liked that they enjoyed the activities and they achieved what must be done. What also surprises us was the extra fund that we don’t know it will distributed back again to us, because we expected that our funds is almost spent through the whole event but we’re mistaken , so it was really surprising that it was given back . For me as part of the subject (FTS) I ‘am so thankful and grateful that the officers are trusted and honest, and they really gave their best just to make those events happened, so a lot of thanks to them. And also to our facilitators who always guided us throughout these events, we thank you very much.

What I didn’t like?

I didn’t liked that the speakers didn’t further more explain some deeper aspects that we didn’t still know, instead of tackling the most important they just more on telling their experiences during their early stages in their programs.

Hackathon and Start-up Pitching Competition

Many students participated also in Hackthon, especially those Computer Science Students who had the ability to compete with their skills using programming languages. The scenario was, on the other dimension of the Social hall while almost of the IT students was on their Pitching elimination the Hackathon competition was also conducted by those competitors . On the other side I saw their faces were in a serious manner to look at the computers because they really made to focus on how they are going to solve their problems within the given time. They seem also quite because it involves logical and analysis as what really it is. While in the Pitching competition most of as listened to the top chosen pitcher on the stage, as what I have observed the competition is tough to be decided due to they all have nice, cool, and unique ideas that many would chose. Even the judges have lots of question about the idea they were pitching, because it means that judges really do understand their ideas with a given minutes to pitch whole the things that needed to clear out. Hours passed by, both competitions were done in a given period of time. All the students really enjoyed the seminar not just because of the food, but also the knowledge they gain during the event. I know many would probably made that day memorable for them because of the experienced that they encountered and some speakers to be known about.

APPENDIX

What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?

            For me, I would recommend that Minor fieldtrip must be held at the company’s place so that we can see the actual things they do and they used, because it’s better to learn with new things we see.

My advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future

My advice to those who are going to take their advance seminar program, choose the responsible officials to pass all the possible requirements for both seminars to take on the said date and places to go, so that everything would be interesting and memorable. Everyone should participate to experience more about the technological field and interest of each other.

TRAVEL REPORT September 7 – 11, 2015 MAJOR FIELDTRIP

Seminar Overview

Under the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Ladderized Curriculum Effective SY- 2008-2009, Subject code FTS or Field Trip and Seminars is mandatory. A 3^rd year or above level of college students can take this subject for it is a prerequisite. FTS consist of 3 Models which students and faculties/instructors can choose to have the same decisions to make.

Before the 1^st semester was started, majority of the class already decided to choose Model A - Major Field Trip (Outside Mindanao). Several meetings were conducted until a final decision was made. The said activity needs us to prepare an amount of twenty-one thousand pesos which is very expensive and everyone agreed. Then, Maynilad Tours and Educational Services Inc. was the chosen agency to handle the trip. They offer some of the places and business companies that we need to visit as part of their educational services to put in the itinerary. Itinerary is a travel document that records timetable schedules and places/events to go. FTS then, were based outside Mindanao particularly in Luzon areas (in Manila) and was happened on September 7-11, 2015 and lasted for 5 days. On the Final Itinerary which divided into two, the Bus 1 and 2 have the same schedule except for Day 2. There are also two appointed faculty instructors who guided us throughout the whole trip.

DAY 1- DOST and Social Security System (SSS)

This particular day is very significant to me because this is the first time that I will board in an airplane. Before those companies that we went, let me till you on what was happened first. By that day as early as 2:30 am I woke up to get prepared and then I grab a taxi to arrive early at the airport. On the very first time I know that it was my first flight and I never felt nervous but my heart was filled with excitement. So much for that, when we arrived at the NAIA terminal 3 I felt so happy because at last I was able to visit Manila in reality. After arriving we proceed to McDonalds not far from the airport to have some breakfast. Then, we immediately went to our first Company visit destination which is DOST located in Bicutan, Taguig it has an average area to built their buildings for workplace. It was kindda tiring day because we travel so early that our mind and body having not enough sleep. The seminar lasted for an hour then we go back to our respective Buses to travel again going to Kenny Rogers Restaurant to have some lunch. Then, after we ate we went to our second Company visit located at East Ave., QC, the main branch of Social Security System (SSS). I was amazed for seeing that they have tall buildings to work at and the big frames of paintings was display inside. At the evening we had our dinner at Tramway Buffet, Timog , QC which surprises me to see many dishes and food to eat . Then, finally we went to our temporary place to feel like home and get some sleep in Kabayan Hotel located in Pasay City.

What I learned?

What I learned in DOST was the Project NOA that this project tracks the places that Typhoon and other calamities will exist on that specific area. It really helps a lot of people to save their lives from danger and death. That this kind of project must be use and workable to help our country from any big casualties that even our government cannot directly act to solve the problem immediately. I learned also that there project compose of what they called LIDAR DSM that has 30 m and 25 m resolution and as well as having an application for mobile to use by people to be aware.

In SSS I learned that they gave so much benefit to their clients such as Earnings and effectivity of coverage. They also have Social Security Benefits program for sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, death, and funeral. They also have Loan programs that I ‘am really sure everyone will grab.

What I liked?

What I liked about this day was my first flight in the Airplane because finally I saw clouds and places overview. Then the sun was rising and it feels like it wanted to greet you a very Good Morning! This really brings me to have a nice and warm day while in the sky traveling. The food also makes me felt happy all the way long.

What I didn’t like?

What I didn’t like about this day was in the airplane when it going to land of course we all knew that it will go round and round first in the above before stepping the wheels on the ground, it makes me feel so crazy and so bad because it made my ears aching like I wanted to jump in the plane because I can’t take the pain any longer. I think on the halfway of it, it makes me cry because of so much pain. Those damn feeling that anytime your eardrum will explode. I really feel so bad.

DAY 2 – PLDT and IBM Phils

This day after we ate our breakfast at Kabayan Hotel we immediately went to PLDT located at Mandaluyong City. As we went there our tour guide kuya Eric always told us about the history or stories of all those known establishments in Manila that was built a long time ago. The time passed by, we arrived at the PLDT Innolab before the scheduled time, so we are too early that’s why we wait just for a while inside the bus. The person that was assigned to tour us inside their company was Mrs. Annie Ferrer she is so kind and you can really see on her face and actions that she really loves her job. We learn a lot from her. After the PLDT we held our lunch inside the bus. After the morning sessions, we finally went to IBM Phils at the Ayala Techno-Hub, Quezon City. Then, they conducted a seminar for us and as far as I remembered they have nice and cool facilities and also the one who conducted us. I really adore what knowledge and learnings he shared to us. For me, IBM Company is one of the places that my curiosity can’t stop giggling.

What I learned?

In PLDT I learned a lot. The President of their company was Mr. Napoleon Nazareno and the person as what they called MVP was Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan. From 1928- 38 their company was established and during that years they demanded a Telephone operator. Then on 1939-48 there was a US Distractions happened. In 1949-58 is the Aged of Hope for them then followed in 1959-68 it was an Aged of Changed and so on because many more years and events that has stories happened.

While in IBM I learned and acknowledge about Bluemix that has an open standard, platform for building and also it has managing and running applications for all time which I myself was never discovered before. I was also amazed about Watson Jeopardy.

What I liked?

I liked the IBM facilities and powder room because they have complete stuff in there. I also liked PLDT for giving us the things that we wanted to know and learn. I also liked the technology that they have, especially those big touchy screens TV that they can use it as a big screen for presentations and I think they can also use it as a computer monitor. I really liked all their technologies.

What I didn’t like?

After the company visits some of them talks about Accenture Company. They said it is cool there and it has a nice view. Then me at that moment, I also wanted to go there, I also wanted to see what they saw and experienced there. From that time I wished I belong in Bus 2 to have different experienced with another classmates. That really makes me feel sad.

DAY 3 – SMX , MOA and Tutuban Mall (night Market )

September 9, 2015, as early as 8 am we arrived in the convention/seminar place for Y4IT at SMX, MOA. When we got there I was so surprise about lots of students that are willing to attend the convention. I never expect that we are hundreds or more from different schools. What also surprises me there was the place, on how huge really it is. The Y4IT convention consumed our whole day schedule. It was fun and I am proud to be part of that national conference together with our very own PSITS President who gave an open remark to a hundreds of students. I was inspired about those speakers from different companies. They spoke amazingly about the product or services that they offer, you can really see their passion on doing their job.

After the convention at 6-8pm we went to Tutuban Mall to buy some ‘pasalubong’ for our families and friends. During our trip going there we suffered heavy traffic and some road problems but we still survived just to buy our needs. For me the time is not enough to buy all the things that we want. That road trip is very much hassle to me.

What I learned?

I learned so much about that day, especially the Y4IT convention. All the speakers are great! They really inspired me on pursuing my passion. I learned that in everything you do, you must give your best.

What I liked?

SMX , MOA I like so much the place and the food we ate there during lunch time. I really liked those spokes person from different companies because they gave an idea on how to be a good technopreneurship someday.

Tutuban Mall I really like to go there for how many times so that I can buy all the things that I liked with just affordable price.

What I didn’t like?

What I didn’t like about that day was the small time that allotted for our shopping in Tutuban. For me the time is not enough, it really makes me feel sad for paying limited items. I also don’t like the traffic; being stuck for an hour really makes my life wasted.

DAY 4 – MMDA Traffic Engineering , People’s Park, Tagaytay City, and Enchanted Kingdom

Among all those days, this day is the best and most memorable for me ,why? Because this is the day that I can say, I really never saw myself as happy as like this before. Early morning going to MMDA located at Edsa Makati is tough to go especially during week days because of so much traffic, thou Edsa Makati is near from the Hotel it feels like it is too far. When we arrived at the MMDA they gave us a warm accommodation. They allow us to see all the big screens for the CCTV records.  They gave us more knowledge about traffics and incidents that usually happened on the road.

After MMDA we immediately went to People’s Park, Tagaytay City , it has a breath taking scenery. The air is fresh and the views can really gave you the peace in mind. For me it is a good place to spend if you wanted to unwind. Running and walking at the top was amazing because you can really see the nice view especially Taal volcano. The weather at that time is great, it allow us enjoying the moment at the park.

We also went to Enchanted Kingdom, the best place to throw all your fears. This is the place where my weak body and mind quickly became alive. At that moment I never felt afraid to all the extreme rides because I know I will enjoy every second of it shouting like crazy. This is the place where you can laugh, cry, and be very nervous to try extreme rides. This is really the place where you can enjoy life in a moment.

What I learned?

In MMDA, I learned about on how they are going to keep the incidents records, on how they will monitor all the CCTV’s and maintain it. I learned also that they keep on recording 24/7 so that they will never miss all the happenings in the road.

In Tagaytay I learned that you need to be wise to buy a ‘pasalubong’ so that it will worth the cost. While in Enchanted Kingdom, I learned that as long as you are given the chance to enjoy life,  grab it, because once you missed it, it will never happen again.

What I liked?

What I liked about this day was the MMDA seminar because they share about the things that we students didn’t know yet and the warm accommodation that they gave  us. I liked the way they help our community to solved incidents and make it safer for an immediate rescue together with the local agencies such as Police and other rescue team if there were accidents happened. l liked also the pleasure trip, like visiting Tagaytay and having unlimited rides at the Enchanted Kingdom. I liked all the extreme rides that I experienced together with my classmates. I really saw the happiness on their faces, up until now I still remembered the laughter and the scream shout that they acted at that time.

What I didn’t like?

I didn’t like the short time that we spent in the Enchanted Kingdom, because I still want to experience all those extreme rides that unfortunately I was not able to do. I wanted to spend my whole day there, which sounds so funny. I really feel so bad in Tagaytay because I only bought few ‘pasalubong’ for my friends, classmates, and family.

DAY 5 – UP Dept. of Computer Science and Resorts World Manila

This day is the saddest moment for me because this is the time are go to go back in Davao  but before it happened we have still two places to drop by. First at UP Dept. of Computer Science located in Quezon City. I was very excited then, because for me University of the Philippines is one of everyone’s dream to get in. Because of its popularity of being a high standard quality of education UP is known as one of the best school to educate oneself and all of the students here are very smart. Since we are an IT students it was decided to have a tour inside the Department of Computer Science College so we went there and the assigned persons to us gave as information about the studies and researches that they are doing. They also introduce us of some of their finished research which I was truly amazed and admired because from the title itself I really think it was very sophisticated. Then they gave us a tour inside their department.

After the tour we immediately went to our next destination to Resorts World Manila for the convenient time travel going to airport it was decided to make it as the last place to go. From the outside appearance of the building you can easily conclude that this mall is suit only for those people who are rich because of the expensive items inside. The place was so elegant and very luminous. It also has a casino where rich people can spend money for nothing just to earn more.

What I learned?

 I learned that in UP Diliman, Dept. of Computer Science has 1 lecture hall, 1 AVR room, 4 lecture rooms, 3 teaching laboratory, and it has a 7 research laboratory. During the tour we are so much enjoy on asking questions about some of our concerns. I learned that they are really smart students.

What I liked?

I liked about that they allow us to tour their department and research laboratories for us to be idealistic that certain schools should have a research lab for the incubation of students to create or produce a research. I liked the fact that they trusted students who are going to do research to manage the rooms and facilities for them to use on their own. They have complete things to do their job and studies inside the lab.

What I didn’t like?

I didn’t like that instead of Trinoma they decided to go to Resorts World Manila which was for me, it’s never been a good place to buy a ‘pasalubong’ because all the items there was so expensive that I cannot truly afford. At that time after visiting UP I expect that we are going to Trinoma or SM North but I was wrong. I feel so much regret about those times that we were given a chance to go there.

I also don’t like about those time that our flight was delayed for more than 2 hours. I also worried about my personal things that I accidentally put in a luggage area. I was worried about any possibilities that might happen to my things inside it because my pack bag should be hand carry for it carries my personal things like, cellphone, money , and others, but thanks God when I got that bag my personal things was still there and nothing was gone. And going home by 12 am is tiring and very hassle.

What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?

I wanted to recommend on time process of papers, payment deadlines, and full time responsible and trusted officers. The program should have cooperative students to implement and work the things that must be done ahead of time. I’ll also recommend 2 Universities must visit in Manila so that the students can differentiate and can learn more about the school systems that must have for the improvement of a certain school. For the improvement of the advance seminar program the officer of the said subject should release a time to time audit in terms of money changes so that when the time that parents meeting will be held no parents will have to complain about money and they should also gave parents a hard copy of every documents that was needed to have and to gave to process the said subject especially in terms of money.

My advice to those students that will take their advance seminar program they must be very prepared, aside from the things that they are going to have and carry, they must also prepare their selves from any possibilities that might happen during and after the field trip. The students must also have bigger pocket money for any emergency purposes that might happen to them. Most of all they must enjoy every seconds of their journey so that after the trip they will remember the happy moments that they spent together. The student must encourage some of her/his classmates to behave and obey to any rules that the officers and facilitators implemented. Everyone also should care each other so that they can build friendships and trust to help one another during the trip.

TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY LEARNINGS

What is Team Building Activity? – As what I’ve read Team Building Activity is use for improving oneself within the group for aiming some task or goals and also to enhance social relations to others. Team Building also is an activity to clarify some group or team roles. Within the activity there are frequently assign task for a group of people to work and collaborate with. Usually it contains important exercises to motivate every group members. Team building also intended to address interpersonal problems that will affect team performance. This was made to help every individuals particularly in the groups to become more active and productive to the goals that they are aiming for. Improving interpersonal relations and social interactions is the main purpose of the said activity. As this activity longing it developed to address best practices for achieving results, meeting goals and accomplishing tasks. The teams are said to be engage to change the situations and also to gain team competencies to enhance performance. It is somewhat like group or team training, which each of the members will learn functioning and effectiveness. Team training and Team building are not totally the same they still have differences. Like in team building it is not needed to be formal because it didn’t focus on skilled – base competencies. The bottom line of this kind of activity is generally sits within just the theory and practices of the organizational development that can also applied to sports team, school groups and other fields of team activity.

Our team building activity or other known it interpersonal activity was set on July 20, 2015. Before the activity was happened I was expecting that it was like before, that the activity was smoothly going better until it was adjourn. I think of this thoughts because I was once became part of the last interpersonal activity. By then, my job was a photographer and at the same time a somewhat like a secretary because aside from taking pictures I also jotting down all the significant topics of the activity and also tell and keep everyone to log in and out. For me as what I have witness before, the last interpersonal was quit enjoyable because majority of my batch took was there. What I like about then was my task that our facilitator assigned to me and that was being a photographer. Even though I’m not part of their activity I still freshly remembered all the enjoyment that they experienced. That was also my first time that I was chosen to took pictures of them and that was also the happiest moment that I was remembered. I still remembered that during that time some of their activities can make everyone became emotional, others was crying and some are half meant  affected. I think every one of them realized that not all the time they were right sometimes they should learn to listen to each other for the reasons that they could made many solutions to their problems as a team. But anyways these are just a recap about what I had experienced before when the last Team Building activity was held.

So now, this is my time or our time!! Hahaha comparing before I was completely satisfied about our recent team building, why? – Because I was not expecting someone or a new one will conduct it differently unlike before. Before the staff or the one who was facilitating then are just the University’s employee base in the UGTO department but now it wassomeone else. I do not still remember her name but I do still remember her face and her kindness to us. According to her she was an instructor of Saint Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro, which similarly an Ateneo University of us but I heard they are the same with different names to called. As what I’ve remember which made me confuse she was here in Davao because she was taking –up Masterals or PhD? I don’t know coz all I remembered was something like that. In fairness to her she made a good job to us. So back on July 20 I think that was Thursday I woke up early at quarter to 6am, I have many things  to do then like cooking rice and dishes , then afterwards took a bath and ate some of my cooked breakfast.  For me that day I was quit more excited because God let those times came right for me to finalize my decision about taking a field trip seriously and not confusedly should be. After commuting by then I came at the right time and then proceed to the social hall but I was wondering why there’s no people inside the hall because I thought the said activity venues was in the social hall but then I was wrong . Thanks to my classmate who arrived after me because he informed me where the right place is. So we decided to go together and yeah we went safely. Hahaha.I never knew that it was there because the first batch assigned in the Social hall. And that place was called our University Hostel. For me it was a good place to conduct the activity because it is quit and we can focus well to do our task. When I entered the door I searched for log-in papers first before I ‘am going to sit for me to be proven visible on that day of interventions. After that I saw my other classmates coming and doing the same thing. Then, the new staff came together with the old. So by then, I was so excited meeting her all the way long I define her like she was good enough to communicate well to us. She’s always smiling and gave us some laughs when my other classmates became weird sometimes. When the activity was started we first conduct a prayer with matching slideshow and background music. Knowing that we are in a generation of gradual immerging of technology, this kind of conducting prayer is not new to me. After the prayer of course we sang for our national anthem. Then, we are requested to sit and start our main activity which is the Team Building. Followed by the staff gave us the first activity of what are we expecting to the seminar then we should write it in a plain short band paper, what I wrote to the first question was like this “In this seminar, I expect that it would be fun and knowledgeable “, the second question was “ I think on this seminar I can contribute some friendly advice to my fellow classmates when they are going to share about their MMK lives and get so emotional.” The third question is my favorite because the answer are just drawing of how do we feel today, so what I draw was a smiley face with a caption of “at the same time I ‘am very excited”. That’s what I really feel then. After that we were instructed to generalize our idea or answers to a one fourth manila paper and I am gladly say that we wrote it right according to what we’ve decided to put.Starting from then I realized that we are learning to apply the listening tactics to have a better understanding and communication to our members in a group and to build or make a better presentation to everyone. Next activity was called “My Place on the Tree” where in this activity we are given to relate or mirror ourselves to the pictures that will represent on who we are in this world. Actually this is my favorite part of the activity because it is a visual presentation to us to make some explanation why we choose that image. This also the part when I or each of us can share on who and what we really are in a real situation. For me I choose the image of a girl that swings in the branch of the tree then I explain to them why I choose that image because for me it somehow connects me and what does she do to be happy on her own doings. For me the image of that girl made me realized that my life was also like that, that even thou I am alone I can make myself happy on my own but like the swing and its rope I still need someone or a family in my life to hold on like the tree in order to come up with those happiness and like the swing my life was something go with the flow on what God’s will provide me. Too many explanations I made by then but my team members still listening to me. On that second activity I saw that we learned to be a good listener to each other and made some opinions to make someone comfortable after sharing their selves. The third activity was reading a poem or an article about A CONSIDERATION OF PERSONHOOD. As I read those lines I felt so amaze of knowing that every person that sitting next to us are unique and we all have different experience in life. I have two favorite lines on the article and these are;

“The person sitting next to you is a unique world of experience. Within him is constantly going on a world premiere of experiences that no person has ever had or will ever have. Thus the person sitting next to you is a cluster of memories of the past and the expectations of the future.

He can live not only for himself, but also for you. He can confront, encourage, and understand you … If that is what you want. In turn, he is to be understood. And unless other people take time to understand him, he is thwarted from being personal.”        

About these lines above, I learned that every one of us is different from each other, and no one can replace us. Maybe we will meet each other earlier and somehow we will also going to meet each other in the future. And the experienced we’ve encountered are different from each other that no one could experience it like we do. I agree also that we lived not only by ourselves but also we lived and uniquely meant for each other to share different understanding about what we were going through. So much for that. The fourth activity was also my favorite the “I am Me” poem. This poem was really an eye opener or a reminder for me about myself. I once became lost without anyone knowing it, even myself. During those moment when I read the poem I realized that despite of everything that I’ve experienced I should or must take care of myself because one selves are unique. That there is no one exactly like me. That I own everything about me. My body , including all its thoughts and ideas. My eyes , including all the messages they behold. I own my thoughts , my dreams, my hopes, and my fears. Those are just some of the lines that really captured my ears to be heard again to remind me that I am only one in this world having those physical, manners, attitude, thoughts, ideas, smiles, and a lot more that no can have. So by then I realized that   I should change for the better version of me. I need to survive in this world with the help of those people who loves me, because I know if the time will come I will no longer lived, some will find my own self of having different personality of others that’s why we should take care of ourselves.

In General, I learned to be more aware on every challenge that will come and make sure to solve it with the help of every member in the group. I learned also to listen first before to react then followed to understand the situations. I learned also to be open minded to everyone’s decisions and opinions. Learned also to be more confident of all the things that you do to achieve your goals. Gaining patience also important to a group and many more. The most important of all is having a strong faith to God to make everything easily handle and solved. Do not lose hopes of every challenges, instead think positive to have a better you.

MY EXPECTATION ON MY FIRST PLANE RIDE

During my childhood days I always wish to fly like a bird and at night like a Star so that I can see the whole combinations of all beautiful places in the world whether it is in day or night.  I knew already then that in a real world airplane is the material for us human to experience to ride on the air like we closely imagine how to fly or get on above. Those things that I imagine then for me was very impossible to happen because I know riding on the airplane is too expensive and only rich people can afford. Knowing that we are poor then I no longer imagine that thing, until these following years came when I started choosing Bachelor of Science in Information Technology I was told that there will be a fieldtrip happen and possibly held in Manila so by then I was very glad that I can say “ wow!, I can’t imagine that my dream before will possibly happened  in my college life”. By then on until now I am still hoping that when that time comes there will be no hindrance that I can’t ride on the plane. I know everyone of us wants to experience riding on the plane and go to many beautiful places as they can. In my situation as a student we are all required to take the FTS subject which stands for Fieldtrip and Seminars in a chosen model. Since majority of us choose the Model A which will be held in Manila at that time I am so happy and excited that finally I can go there by riding in an airplane which I never experience in my whole life before. And yes! Your right it is really my first time to ride in an airplane if it happens.  Speaking of first time I really don’t know what I should prepare first.  I am thinking lots of possibilities of what might be happen during those times and I heard from others that when it will be your first time riding on the plane you will might suffer pain inside your ears due to air pressure. Hearing those never worry me because I know I can easily overcome those instances. What really worries me are those accident will happened, I know I am so weird but we can never tell what will happen next in every seconds or minutes in our lives. Aside from the accident I also worry about vomiting inside the airplane because I am that kind of person who easily felt sick when traveling especially when the transportation has air conditioner that smells very unusual it makes me feel so easily to vomit. I don’t want it to happen and if it will, promise I will totally hate myself after all.

As we notice first time on anything will occupy the biggest part of our memory because of that I will make sure that everything will be good and very happy. I have so much expectation on my first ride in the airplane. First , I expect that I will be nervous because of so much excitement and thoughts that might be happened, like how can I handle myself whenever there might be problems to occur. Second, I will make sure to take a sit next to the airplanes window to make sure I can see clearly the sky and beautiful places below which I really wish before that I will experience because of very beautiful scenery whenever I will be on board. Third, finally I will see those flight attendants inside the airplane on what will be there job inside, on how they’re physical appearance will be looked like as what I’ve heard before.  I want also see what really inside the airplane looked like. I am curious also about the services that they will offer during the travel and a lot so much more.

I expect it to be safe and sound for us, I want it to be fun, I want it to be an awesome experience for me, and first times need to be the best of all. Safe would be my first expectation for my first plane ride, of course people seek for safety in every journey they have, journey will be useless if safety is not there. You will never taste the enjoyment of your travel if you are dead right? Besides it is my first time, I do not want this to happen to me and my friends and classmates, and I do not want these to be my first and last strategy. Fun of course, it will be my first plane ride and I expect it to be fun together with my friends and classmates. I want this to be my unforgettable plane ride of my life, and also I want this to be my unforgettable travel in my college life. And of course lastly, an awesome experience for me, I want these to remember in my entire life, I want to write this for me to not forget it, just what I said I want this to be my unforgettable travel in my college life together with my friends and classmates, I do not care if people say I am exaggerating, it is just a plane ride, yes it will be just a plane ride for them but for me it will be my first plane ride, and I do not care for them as long as I will enjoy it and that I will be safe and it will be a good experience . I am excited to ride a plane to learn from people in Manila, to gain new ideas and knowledge. . It will be a good trip I know that for sure, it will be fun, informative and inspiring as well, especially in the Y4IT seminars which will be joined by a thousands of Information Technology students from different schools in the country. It will be a once in a lifetime experience for me as a student, joining such big events and visiting big companies and schools in the country, that would be lot of experience for me. The result of this trip will be positive and it will be fun out there, I will enjoy myself out there with my friends and we will be learning together.   Every one of us wanted to have a wonderful and safe trip. To travel far away with my classmates and friends it’s an opportunity to discover new things. So many expectations for the travel but sometimes expectations lead us to disappointments. So let’s try to expect less then let us see what we will receive even much more. I mean life is an adventure. Take risks. Even though I’m gonna spend a lot of money but the knowledge or the experience that I will encounter will never gonna buy it or replace it. And I will always embrace it and the memory that I will carry wherever I go. We just wanna go on more adventure. Be around and have good energy. Connect with people. Learn new things. Grow. In learning, we learn to know the bad and the good things. Everything is an opportunity; it depends on the person on how he/she look on a certain thing. But for me, this travel will give me another experience and to witness the wonderful land and sky that I could touch and embrace it that our creator made.  All of us want to be our first times to be as good or as best as we could. First time to do anything is the most memorable experience to us. First time’s give as the most mix feeling we will get and it will never be the same as we take as the second time around. Even you’re happy with the second time, third time and so on, it’s still different from the first time you did it. To be a successful with your goal – get the best experience, we must do our roles and give the best shot we have. Regrets will be the product of being too serious and being a negative person. So, instead of being worrying and thinking horrible things, let your positive aura comes in and exhales the negative aura. Instead of being a paranoid, be a happy crazy human being and let the good vibes rocks your world to enjoy the moment. First time experiences on everything as what do they say is always the best. Because of the reason that it is a first time and this experience may be the last or will be repeated for a long time. As to what excites me more are the things which will result to a new learning and to be expose to the real happening to the real world. The primary purpose of going there is to have a new and better idea of what might be a new innovation which may come to our mind to make life better and can be live easier. As far as I know, we will be landed at NAIA Airport and based in the news report, it is the worst airport compared to any airport in the country or internationally. I want to see in my two eyes and experience the things they say why it is known as the worst airport. Maybe when I get there and experienced it, I can formulate an innovative idea. When we experience something that is not good or that needs improvement, we can’t help ourselves but to think for possible solutions. Through the help of our technopreneurship subject, if I always encounter and see a situation that totally needs to be developed and improved, I always bear it in my mind for its innovation. Because through our imagination and creative minds, we can help our community to give a solution that surely everyone can benefit. I know that I am discussing now what I have learned in my technopreneurship subject, but it will not matter at all. But what matter most is that it is not about field trip and seminars why we are going in Manila; our main purpose and reason why we will be there is to observe the things in their environment that calls for improvement, the technology they used and the knowledge we will get that we could apply in our own city.I am hoping that since it is my first flight, there is no mechanical defect that will going to happen. I hope that we will be enjoying our trip to Manila. I hope that those experiences and learning we get will become our motivation to do things better. I am praying that God will be guiding us, bless us and will protect us in any circumstances that we will meet.  And if you be asking me if that would be the only thing that I could be afraid of? I think I would answer that yes. I don’t fear a height that’s one advantage. I don’t even afraid to die we all be going on the same destination either. What else UHMM? I think that’s all. Know I’m thinking on my friend she does afraid of heights even a five story building made her afraid to death how much more when we are level on the sky I wish she will not be sitting the window sit. Talking about the window sit how I wish that I could be the one sitting on that side. Please. And if that would not be the sit they give to me how I wish one of my closes friends will have the sit so that we can switch. I’m praying that all of us that wanted to have the field trip this semester can come even me; I wish my parents can afford the ticket and the package our group will be choosing .I do expect that our adviser will be checking on us one by one to prevent some problem like if someone left behind. I also expecting that the ride will be smooth, so that I don’t feel sick and wishing that it is better to ride a plane than the water transportation and land transportation. I want this trip to be fun I’m expecting to sit beside my friends or even on people I know so I have someone to talk to. I don’t expecting more about the luxury of the plane. I just want to have a free food to be served on us. On what I know we are not allowed to bring a foods or drinks I think. But I’m an eater person even people couldn’t see it on because of my size but yes unfortunately I am. Maybe I could sneak some foods on my pocket or even candies. Only the metals are detected during boarding right. Even if the plane has a food in it, I think I cannot afford to buy they said the price is double or maybe triple that will be charge. This is adding on my problem list I wish I don’t have something to add to. I’m expecting myself to take a lot of picture on that time because it will be going my first plane ride. I wish my family can experience that too soon.  I do have a lot of expectation during my plane ride I just can’t find a word to explain.  For now I just want to imagine the enjoyment and fun on board the talking and our advance view on what are we going to do first when we land.

MY FTS PREFERRED MODEL

Back then, before the end of 2^ndsemester as a 2^nd year student we already aware about the FTS (Field Trip and Seminars) subject that it has 3 Models option to choose, which are the MODEL A , B, and C.

Model A - Major Field Trip (Outside Mindanao) + 1 Minor Field Trip (Mindanao) + 1 Seminar (National) + 2hrs Interpersonal Skills.

Model B - 1 Major Field Trip (Outside Mindanao) + 2 Minor Field Trip (Mindanao) + 2 Seminar (8hrs) + 2hrs Interpersonal Skills.

Model C - 3 Minor Field Trip (Mindanao) + 4 Seminars (16 hrs) (Mindanao) + 2hrs Interpersonal Skills.

As what I have heard from the previews batch of the students who already took up the FTS subject majority of them choose the Model A, which is the Major Field Trip outside Mindanao and the chosen Place since from the beginning was in Metro Manila. As a raise child from the mountain of a not known province I will admit that before when I was a kid one of my dream is to land in Metro Manila. Hearing it from FTS subject that it is very possible to go there as long as you will choose the model A then you can go there for study purposes. At that time, I think that this is the time that I will experience the dream that I dreamt before when I was a child, but this is not the main reason why I prefer to choose the Model A, I still have many important reasons that you may read below.

I gladly prefer to choose FTS Model A aside from the other two options. Why? First, because knowing that Model A seminars will be held in Manila then for me, why not choose the best? - For you to learn and discover more with the place having big and much known information technology companies. Manila is known as a modern city in the Philippines (aside for being the Capital) for having high buildings, many establishments, known companies and people. Yeah! I am right. Manila is the best place, where I prefer to spend my money, where I can learn many things about technologies than spending it to the place that has limited information which at the end you will just realized that you are still spending the same big money whether you like it or not. Second, I love to choose the place where I know it can help me to be knowledgeable about modernization, technologies, events and other things related to studies that I am surely cannot experience here in my own beloved city. So far, I think as I know in the Philippines Manila is the only place where many big and known companies are only found such as IBM, Toshiba, and etc. Many big and advance schools also found there that I am very excited to enter to observe and experience there environment.

Second, I prefer to choose Model A because I know from the beginning that majority of the class will choose Model A and even though I will choose the other one because it’s cheaper still the majority wins. As simple as that.

Third, I know going and visiting Manila is rare to happen in my whole boring life for staying in the same place.

Fourth, it’s my dream to go to big and popular schools like ATENEO DE MANILA and UP DELIMAN. We all know that these schools have better facilities compare to ours, better learning systems, and other things that the students and our schools didn’t have.

Fifth, we all know that the main braches of a selected big technology companies will only found in Manila like IBM, IDEA SPACE, TOSHIBA, and others. These companies will surely contribute you such knowledge that will make you more inspire and widen your dreams in the future. To know more, Manila is advanced in terms of technology and most of the best ICT companies here in the Philippines are found in Manila. One of the reasons why I chose the model A is because of its advancement. I want to see whats the difference, in terms of technology, between Davao and Manila.

Sixth, even though we will go in Manila for study and business purposes not for pleasure still I know it will give me the experience that I cannot replay in my life. The people, the events, the knowledge and even the time of traveling together with your classmate and schoolmates within that area will never be experience again. I know that this field trip is too expensive that our parents will always contradict about but still for me it’s the best thing to choose for us to experience different.

Lastly, I know not just from to myself but also from the others that this Model to choose with can give us more inspirations to our studies and career in the near future by meeting those businesses minded people. That after the trip our point of view or insights about INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY will changed in a wider perspective. That the money of our beloved parents will never be wasted like nothing was happened and poof!! We don’t have that kind of money anymore! In short regret. But at least when we go home our parents will see the different smiles in our faces. That after the trip the sacrifice and the helps of our facilitators will be paid because they are the one who bring us there with security and safety , and we experience that once in a lifetime experience feed with new knowledge , wisdom, and hopes for us to be more competitive to other schools. That this chosen trip will give us more dreams to come true and to believe that time will come then everything will happen to our chosen path. That this trip is everyone’s pleasure in visiting another place with important purpose. That after this trip we will share the big difference about Manila compare in our place, on how modernization of the place keeps us behind. That this chosen trip will give as the experience that worth the cost!

REFLECTION 4 (JULY 08, 2014)

Hi guys, this was another day of making some reflection about our fourth meeting on July 8, 2014. What I liked the most about that day was we tackled about the Technopreneurship Ecosystem and its components. Its component composed of what they called HELF - H means Human resources, E - Environment, L- Laws and policies, and the last one stands for F - Financial resources. Each has an explanation about techno ecosystem that we can surely apply and share to everyone. As we go to our discussions we also tackled about why technopreneurship? While I’m on my seat I thought about that yeah! Why technopreneurship? It is said there that it generates employments which is true. By then, I learned a lot on what technopreneurship really was and how must it applied in the real situations. What I liked also was how to START THE BALL ROLLING which we also tackled about. First the Innovation, it said that person will get an idea, active search, by chance, present employments or experience. Second was Triggering Event which career prospect and deliberate choice. Next was Implementation and Growth. These start-up was a good thing to hear and to learn. I think these may help us to gain an idea to start a new business and a start-up. The start- up and Company belongs to BUSINESS MODEL GENERATION that differentiate the two. As what I still remembered it was ask there that what’s a company? And what is start up? To those who are confused and compared the two the same that which is very wrong. To explain further Company is a business organization that sell a product or services in exchange for revenue and profit. For me it’s more on selling just to have the income returned by an investment. This is more on investing that you should place a capital in expecting of driving income or profit from its use. While Start-up , as what I had recall it is a temporary organization, a group of a student, investors or people that will share and create ideas. Start – up is also designed to search some innovative ideas that will not just gain popularity but also gain a big or lifetime revenue to those who gave it. It is also repeatable and scalable , repeatable in a sense that the organization can repeat to create their ideas and scalable that they can develop and upgrade more their ideas to make it perfect or better to use by others. Start-up also deals with Business Model. At that day also to follow the Business Model Generation discussion of course start-up versus existing companies also tackled. It is more on differentiating the two that start-ups begin with a series of unknown so it mostly they only searched for an idea. On the other hand , the existing companies deal with execution of known, so it’s more like executing the idea or the business that they want to implement. The insight is that management tools built to execute do not work because tools and idea alone can’t execute without the first process and its proceedings. I liked also the most when the three crucial components for business was introduced to us. I learned that Excellence Market has many opportunity and it focus on Timing which the idea or window of opportunity look brief and if the window is brief the entrepreneur will rush to open. This are just the things that I still remembered that day. By the ways, our facilitator also introduced us about the Business Model Canvas which has 9 significant components to fill in just to make an idea from nothing or scratch then come up with just an idea that will convince everyone to have not just that but also to apply in the near future. What is a Business Model? – It is how the company creates value for itself while delivering products or services for customers. So far this are the part that I liked the most because I learned from it how to make a business model canvas, what are the difference between start- up and company, and what are the things that should have done just to have a productive idea that the organization can claim a revenue.

On that day, aside from the things that I liked the most I also have the least part that I don’t really liked. First was when our facilitator gave us reminders about the start –up competition that we should submit the form ahead of time because the deadline is fast approaching. Actually I don’t have any idea about it but since we already discussed the Business Model at that time then I already had the idea. The thing was I didn’t expect to submit a form for the competition because I thought that only those interesting must only submit and compete. Unfortunately my thoughts doesn’t support the truth , I’m confused and still learning and building ideas about those activities that our facilitator will compulsory join us. What I also liked the least when our facilitator give us an instructions to propose and create a Business Model Canvas next meeting. I was so confused and sad at that time because the learnings and idea about the activity still hanging up with my mind and an idea that I don’t even know if possible. Thou, I have thoughts like that, I know I can do it and propose an idea that I can surely gain a revenue. Maybe I can’t propose an idea faster but I know that time will come I can create one and made it different from others. We know that minding and creating ideas is not easy and actually tough to do because it takes a long time to extract an idea that they will surely agree and approve.  For me searching for problems and solution to the problems is hard to think of, especially when I’m going to apply it in an application that will help the android or device users to solve their problems and give them more entertainment to make their days very interesting. These are just the part of our 4^th meeting day that I remembered what I liked the most and the least.
